Child Identification & Protection Plan
Finding a lost or abducted child is easier with more information about your child that can be provided to the police department. What can I do as a parent to help protect my child?
Create a file with details about your child.
- Keep a current photo.
- List weight, height, age, and identifying marks.
- Keep a clip of hair for DNA reference.
-
Have your dentist’s name, address and phone number with the following information.
- Current x-rays.
- “Toothprints” impression of your child’s teeth. Update yearly until growth has been sufficient, usually around mid-late teens. See note about Toothprints.
- Know your children’s friends and keep a list of names and phone numbers.
- Watch for behavior changes.
Toothprints is a plastic wafer that when softened in water is placed in the mouth and bit down on to create an imprint of the teeth. The wafer should not be handled with your hands and the saliva should not be rinsed off. Toothprints by itself can contain DNA, smells from your child (dogs can track), and the imprint of the teeth that make identification and confirmation of a child much simpler and precise.
This may not protect your child, but many missing children are never identified leaving the family wondering what has happened. If you wish to have us provide this service, let us know and we will create Toothprints as often as you desire. We can keep this information filed at our office so that it doesn’t get lost or you can keep it in your own possession.
There are more complex procedures to include taking fingerprints and more detailed data in a complete folder. We currently do not have these items, but if there is interest by our patients, we will add this item to the list of procedures that we provide.
This is a service we have decided to provide at cost. Cash only paid at the time of service keeps the cost to only $15.50. If you wish to be billed, there would be an additional fee of $3.00.
